Applications are now open for the 2027 Global Mental Health Africa Conference. The Science for Africa Foundation and the Mental Health Innovation Network believe that the most important voices in African mental health should have a seat at the table at #GMHAC2027. A limited number of scholarships are available to support individuals who would otherwise be unable to attend due to financial constraints.
Requirements
Scholarships are open to individuals in the following categories:
- Early career researchers working in mental health research, practice, or policy
- Students – a letter of support from your institution or supervisor is required
- Persons with lived experience of mental health conditions or psychosocial disability
- Other applicants with a demonstrated connection to mental health in Africa, please specify your category in the application
Priority will be given to applicants based in Africa for whom financial support is essential to attend.
What You Can Apply For
Applicants may request support for any combination of the following:
- Conference registration fee
- Travel costs
- Accommodation
- Other costs (please specify in your application)
Application Procedure:
Applications are completed online and require the following:
- Personal details – name, email, phone number, country of residence, institution or organisation, and current role
- Motivation statement (maximum 300 words) – why you wish to attend #GMHAC2027 and how it will impact your work
- Impact and contribution statement – how your work advances mental health research, policy, or services in Africa, and how it incorporates people with lived experience or community engagement
- Financial need statement (maximum 300 words) – why financial support is required to attend
- CV or résumé
- Recommendation letter – required for student applicants; strongly encouraged for all other categories
Notification of Outcomes
All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application via email. Successful recipients will receive further details on scholarship coverage and participation requirements at that stage.
