Are you a PhD graduate in economics or a related field looking to work on impactful global research? The Postdoctoral Research Associate position at Texas A&M University offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research on conflict, forced displacement, and economic development. Based in College Station, Texas, this role allows you to collaborate with leading researchers, work with rich datasets, and engage in policy-relevant research. Applications are open now, with a deadline of 15 April 2026.

About the Opportunity

The Program on Conflict and Development (ConDev) within the Department of Agricultural Economics at Texas A&M University is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join its research team. ConDev conducts advanced research on the economic causes and consequences of conflict, forced displacement, and recovery, combining theoretical frameworks with empirical analysis.

This position offers the opportunity to work closely with the program director, Dr. Harun Onder, and collaborate with affiliated researchers on ongoing and new research initiatives. The program’s work spans a wide range of topics, including conflict spillovers, labor market responses to instability, the effects of forced displacement on host communities, and the relationship between climate shocks and economic systems.

Researchers in this program use diverse and complex data sources, including administrative microdata, household and firm surveys, and geospatial datasets. The selected candidate will contribute to data analysis, research design, and the development of academic outputs, as well as participate in seminars, workshops, and broader intellectual activities within the department.

The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding. The anticipated start date is 1 June 2026, making this an excellent opportunity for recent PhD graduates seeking to transition into a strong academic or policy-oriented research career.

Why This Opportunity Matters

Understanding the economic impacts of conflict and displacement is critical for designing effective policies and interventions. Research in this field helps governments, international organizations, and development agencies respond to crises, support recovery, and build resilient economies.

The ConDev program at Texas A&M University plays a key role in advancing this knowledge by combining rigorous academic research with real-world policy engagement. By joining this program, researchers contribute to work that has direct implications for global development and humanitarian efforts.
