What is the Youth Advisory Council (YAC)?

The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is a select group of high school students who serve as experts, thought leaders, and co-creators within NYLC’s programs. With over 40 years of youth-centered impact, NYLC places young people at the heart of its mission—and the YAC represents the highest level of that commitment.

Members don’t just participate—they actively shape programming, influence national conversations, and lead initiatives that impact communities across the country.

What You’ll Do as a YAC Member

YAC members take on meaningful responsibilities across multiple initiatives:

Youth as Solutions (YaS)

Support youth teams through coaching, facilitation, and program development.

Youth Leadership Report

Conduct research and contribute to a national report highlighting youth perspectives and solutions.

Youth Summit

Plan and execute a national youth leadership event.

National Service-Learning Conference

Design sessions, recruit participants, and facilitate discussions at a major national conference.

Content Creation

Create impactful media content including podcasts, articles, and digital storytelling.

Program Commitment

  • Duration: 2 years (2026–2028)
  • Monthly Commitment: 2–4 hours of virtual meetings and project work
  • Events:
    • Fall Leadership Retreat (2+ days)
    • National Service-Learning Conference (4+ days)
  • Travel Costs: Fully covered by NYLC

Leadership Development Experience

YAC members benefit from structured growth opportunities, including:

  • Monthly research sharing to stay informed and engaged
