As a pan-African survey research network, Afrobarometer is dedicated to enhancing data collection, analysis, and utilization skills across the continent. The organization believes that by doing so, African researchers, policy actors, and civil society representatives can effectively contribute to policy development and decision-making processes.

Workshop Overview:

The Afrobarometer Emerging Scholars Workshop aims to bring together early career researchers and experienced academic mentors to enhance analytical capacity in Africa. The workshop will help participants utilize Afrobarometer’s extensive open access datasets to produce analytical outputs. Additionally, it will create mentoring networks across the continent’s research institutions and provide professional development opportunities for African researchers.

 Structure:

  • Paper Presentations: Successful applicants will present a paper or research design and receive detailed feedback from experienced mentors and peers.
  • Professionalisation Sessions: Academic mentors will provide guidance on key aspects of building a successful career in academia.
  • Roundtable Conversations: Mentors will share their experiences in interactive Q&A sessions with participants.

Who Can Apply?

  • Researchers currently utilizing Afrobarometer data in their work with draft papers or developed research proposals.
  • Early career researchers at PhD level or who have taken up an academic position within the last five years in disciplines related to Afrobarometer data.

Application:

  • Applicants must submit a draft paper or research proposal in English.
  • Selected participants will receive support for travel, accommodation, meals, and related expenses.
  • Participants will be accommodated at Future Africa Campus in Pretoria, South Africa.
