The International School on Climate Mobilities (ISCM), hosted by the Beyond Climate Collaborative, offers an enriching interdisciplinary educational program designed to connect and engage emerging scholars, practitioners, and change-makers in critical knowledge exchange. This program equips participants with the tools necessary to address the complexities of climate change, environmental impacts, and climate-induced mobility.

Our Approach to Learning The ISCM places a strong focus on the vulnerabilities of marginalized communities, particularly women and girls, racialized, minority, and Indigenous groups, as well as economically disenfranchised individuals. The program emphasizes solutions-driven learning through a rights-respecting lens, grounded in social, migrant, racial, feminist, economic, and environmental justice. The aim is to create cross-sectoral, timely, and just solutions to the challenges of climate-related mobilities.

Key Objectives of ISCM:

  1. Facilitate an educational forum for critical dialogue and evidence-based learning.
  2. Empower emerging scholars to engage with the complexities of climate-related mobilities.
  3. Promote research in the climate-migration nexus.
  4. Expand the network of researchers and practitioners advocating for climate mobility solutions.

Course Structure: The six-week online ISCM course covers a range of topics, including:

  • Week 1: Drivers and agency in climate-related mobilities.
  • Week 2: Environmental mobilities, health, food, and livelihood security.
  • Week 3: Climate justice, unpacking coloniality, gender, race, class, and indigeneity.
  • Week 4: Protection politics, human rights, and refugee law.
  • Week 5: Climate change, conflict, and displacement.
  • Week 6: Building resilience and enhancing adaptive capacity.

Beyond the Classroom: ISCM participants gain access to a global network, expanding opportunities for collaboration, career development, and further learning. The program also hosts side-events, networking sessions, and alumni initiatives designed to foster global collaboration in the climate mobilities field.

Applications for ISCM 2025 Now Open The 2025 ISCM program runs from May 26 to July 9 and is open for applications from February 7 to February 28, 2025. This year’s program will host up to 200 participants, offering lectures from over 40 experts in the field.

How to Apply: Applications will be accepted through the ISCM Online Application Form. Learn more and apply today.

Previous Years’ Impact: In 2024, the ISCM welcomed 92 participants from 49 countries and collaborated with more than 40 experts. Participants came from esteemed institutions such as Duke University, Columbia University, and Amnesty International, engaging in rigorous seminars and lectures. The program has seen a significant increase in participants’ understanding of climate mobility, with their average rating of knowledge jumping from 54% before the program to 84% upon completion.

Who Should Apply? The ISCM is open to students, recent graduates, academics, practitioners, and change-makers passionate about researching, advocating, and addressing climate-induced migration and displacement. We encourage diverse participation from all corners of the world, welcoming individuals at different stages of their research, advocacy, and career journeys.

Capstone Projects and Career Development: ISCM participants can engage in optional capstone projects, collaborating with partner organizations to apply their learning and develop tools and research addressing climate mobility challenges. Participants also gain access to career development opportunities, mentorship, and knowledge production projects.

Get Involved: To further support the development of climate mobility solutions, the Beyond Climate Collaborative invites you to donate or sign up for our mailing list for updates on the ISCM and other programs.
