If you are passionate about global peace, international relations, and development, the 2026 internship opportunities at the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute offer a unique chance to gain hands-on experience in one of the world’s most respected research institutions. Based in Solna, Stockholm, these internships are designed for motivated students and recent graduates eager to contribute to peacebuilding, policy, and global development efforts.

SIPRI is globally recognized for its research on conflict, security, and peace. Established in 1966, the institute provides critical data, analysis, and policy recommendations to governments, researchers, and international stakeholders.

Overview of SIPRI Internships 2026

SIPRI is offering five internship positions running from mid-July/August to mid-December 2026, across three dynamic teams:

1. Communication Team (2 Positions)

Interns in this team will:

  • Support the promotion of SIPRI’s research, publications, and events
  • Handle media inquiries and assist with communications strategies
  • Contribute to social media content and multimedia production
  • Support the 2026 Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development communication efforts
  • Assist in launching SIPRI’s major databases

You will collaborate closely with internal communication teams and external partners, gaining real-world experience in media and digital engagement.

2. Director’s Office (1 Position)

This role offers exposure to high-level decision-making and leadership processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting internal planning and coordination
  • Assisting in high-level meetings and engagements
  • Drafting speeches, notes, and talking points
  • Organizing board meetings, events, and official visits

This is a fast-paced environment ideal for those interested in governance, policy, and executive support.

3. Stockholm Forum Team (2 Positions)

Interns will help organize the prestigious Stockholm Forum on Peace and Development, scheduled for 3–4 November 2026.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting event planning and logistics
  • Coordinating with global participants and stakeholders
  • Assisting in delivering a large-scale international conference
  • Providing on-site support during the forum

This forum gathers policymakers, researchers, activists, and experts worldwide to foster dialogue on peace and development.

Key Responsibilities Across Internships

All interns will engage in a variety of tasks such as:

  • Administrative and operational support
  • Information management and coordination
  • Communication with stakeholders
  • Meeting participation and note-taking
  • Event logistics and travel coordination
  • Content creation for digital platforms (especially for communication interns)
