Microsoft Research (MSR) is seeking Research Interns to join its Machine Learning (ML) group in New York City. This opportunity offers PhD candidates the chance to contribute to groundbreaking advancements in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), reinforcement learning (RL), and robot learning.
About Microsoft Research NYC
MSR NYC hosts a team of world-class scientists and engineers working on innovative research across computing, healthcare, economics, and the environment. The ML group at MSR NYC is known for its collaborative environment, where team members work closely with each other and with teams across Microsoft to solve complex challenges.
Interns will work on theoretical and empirical ML research and are encouraged to craft and pursue independent research programs. A strong publication record at top research venues is highly valued for this role.

Key Responsibilities
As a Research Intern, you will:
- Collaborate with MSR NYC’s ML group on cutting-edge research topics in ML, AI, and RL.
- Develop and execute an independent research program.

Required Qualifications
- Enrollment in a PhD program in a relevant field.
- Ability to work onsite at Microsoft’s designated location for the internship duration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Expertise in theoretical or empirical ML, including deep learning, reinforcement learning, and large language models.
- Strong track record of publishing research in top-tier venues.
- Ability to develop original research agendas and think creatively to solve complex problems.
- Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural collaboration skills.
Compensation and Benefits
