Caribou Space, in collaboration with the UK Humanitarian Innovation Hub (UKHIH), invites applications from humanitarian organisations in East Africa for hands-on support to integrate geospatial data and tools into their working processes. This initiative aims to improve contextual awareness and preparedness for crisis events triggered by weather events.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Based or operate in any of the following East African countries: Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania or Uganda.
  • Can commit staff time to the facility (between 5 and 12 days).
  • Can engage in a technical assistance assignment conducted in English.
  • Respond to a short survey or interview as part of concluding the engagement.

Support Overview: The support will be provided through a three-phased engagement:

  1. Group Training Session: Introducing geospatial information and facilitating peer-to-peer knowledge sharing. (Oct/Nov 2024)
  2. Scoping Assessment: One-on-one walkthrough to identify areas where satellite data can support decision-making. (Oct/Nov 2024)
  3. Technical Support: Engaging a technical expert to identify open-access data and tools, providing training and support for integration into decision-making processes. (Nov 2024 – Feb 2025)

Selection Process:

  • Evaluation Criteria: Proposals will be evaluated based on the criteria set out in the Call for Applications.
  • Shortlisting: Shortlisted candidates may be invited for a short scoping interview in September 2024 to clarify details in the application and assess the candidate’s suitability for the work.
