The DAAD Brussels Office is now hiring a Project Leader for the EU-funded Study and Research in Africa: Opportunities (SRiA-O) initiative.

This full-time role offers experienced international development and project management professionals the opportunity to lead a strategically significant EU–Africa cooperation initiative focused on higher education and research collaboration.

Based in Brussels, the successful candidate will oversee implementation of a complex, multi-country project in partnership with the European Commission, African and European institutions, and international stakeholders.

About the Role

The Project Leader will be responsible for strategic and operational leadership of the SRiA-O project, ensuring effective implementation, stakeholder coordination, and accountability across multiple countries and institutions.

This position is ideal for senior professionals with extensive experience managing transnational development or education projects, particularly within EU-funded frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will:

  • Lead strategic and operational management of the SRiA-O initiative
  • Coordinate partners, subcontractors, and stakeholders across Europe and Africa
  • Oversee governance processes including risk, quality, and change management
  • Manage reporting, financial oversight, and accountability systems
  • Support stakeholder engagement, communication, and external representation

Candidate Profile

Applicants should demonstrate:

  • At least 10 years of experience managing transnational cooperation projects
  • Strong experience with DG INTPA / EU-funded programmes
  • Proven collaboration with African and European partner organizations
  • Excellent coordination, drafting, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Fluency in English and French
  • German language skills are considered an advantage
