The interconnected health of humans, animals, and the environment—commonly referred to as the One Health approach—presents a global challenge that requires international collaboration. To support this mission, the One Health Platform is offering travel grants for early-career researchers to conduct four-month research stays at leading German research institutions.
This funding opportunity is designed to promote international networking, facilitate the exchange of scientific methods and techniques, and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration in line with the One Health concept.
About the Travel Grant Program
For the current application cycle, the following fellowships will be awarded:

Up to two (2) doctoral fellowships: €1,500 per month for a maximum of four months

One (1) postdoctoral fellowship: €2,350 per month for a maximum of four months

Travel expenses: Roundtrip travel (including flights and train fares) will be covered in accordance with the German Federal Travel Expense Act
The funded research stay must be completed by December 31, 2025.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following conditions:

Be affiliated with a recognized academic institution outside of Germany
-
Conduct research that aligns with the One Health framework
-
Have a confirmed host institution in Germany that provides laboratory or workplace access and supports the proposed exchange
Required Application Documents
To be considered, applicants must submit the following materials:

Curriculum Vitae (maximum 1 page), indicating current academic affiliation and research focus
-
Letter of support from the German host institution (maximum 1 page)

Description of the planned research stay (maximum 2 pages), including the proposed timeline and research objectives

Detailed financial plan for the use of the travel grant, with links or screenshots for proposed travel and accommodation arrangements
Please note: All bookings must be made through or in coordination with HZI/HIOH.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be reviewed based on the following:

Interdisciplinary scope of the proposed exchange
-
Relevance and contribution to One Health research
-
Career development potential for the applicant
-
Feasibility and clarity of the proposed timeline and budget
Application Deadline
All application materials must be submitted via email to hioh-office@helmholtz-hioh.de by May 5, 2025. Successful applicants will be notified by May 13, 2025.
Reporting Requirement
Selected fellows are required to submit a brief report summarizing their research activities and key outcomes at the conclusion of their stay.
