The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants,
- both nationally and internationally,
- who will positively contribute to the country’s economic, social, and research-based growth.
Features of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program:
- Emphasis on synergy between applicant’s merit and potential, and host institution’s commitment to research program
- Applicants must collaborate with host institution on application process
Objectives:
- Attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally
- Develop leadership potential in postdoctoral researchers
- Position fellows for success as research leaders of tomorrow
Scope of the Program:
- 70 fellowships awarded annually
- Approximately 140 awards active at any given time
- Fellowships divided equally among CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC
Value and Duration:
- $70,000 per year (taxable)
- 2-year non-renewable fellowship
Timelines:
- April to September: Application period
- September 17: Deadline for complete application submission
- October to December: Evaluation of applications
- Mid-February 2025: Notification of results
- April to October 2025: Payments begin
