Applications are now open for the Launch to Work: Africa (L2W) 2026 programme, a fully funded employability initiative designed to support young African graduates as they transition from education into the professional world.

Developed through a partnership between SOS Children’s Villages Worldwide and Industry Immersion Africa, the Launch to Work: Africa programme seeks to bridge the gap between academic achievement and employment opportunities by equipping graduates with workplace skills, professional development support, and internship placements.

Unlike many employability initiatives that focus primarily on STEM graduates, L2W is intentionally inclusive and open to graduates from all academic disciplines.

The programme recognizes that talent exists across every field of study and aims to create pathways into meaningful employment for young Africans from diverse educational backgrounds.

About Launch to Work: Africa (L2W)

Launch to Work: Africa was created to address one of the most significant challenges facing graduates across the continent: transitioning successfully from university to employment.

While many graduates possess academic qualifications, they often lack access to professional guidance, industry exposure, and practical workplace experience that employers increasingly expect.

L2W is designed to help participants build confidence, career clarity, employability skills, and professional readiness through a structured development journey.

The programme focuses on preparing graduates not only to secure opportunities but also to succeed in today’s rapidly evolving workplace.

What Makes the Programme Different?

Many graduate programmes focus heavily on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. However, Launch to Work: Africa takes a broader and more inclusive approach.

The programme welcomes graduates from all educational backgrounds, recognizing that employability and innovation are not limited to a single academic field.

Whether applicants studied:

  • Arts and humanities
  • Social sciences
  • Business
  • Education
  • Technology
  • Communications
  • Health sciences
  • Engineering
  • Or any other accredited discipline

they are encouraged to apply if they are motivated to build their careers.

Programme Structure

The Launch to Work: Africa programme is organized into three key stages designed to support participants throughout their employability journey.

1. Align

The Align phase helps participants develop clarity around their professional identity, career goals, strengths, and personal brand.

Participants will learn how to:

  • Understand their career interests
  • Position themselves professionally
  • Present their skills effectively to employers
  • Build confidence in workplace environments

This stage focuses on helping graduates define who they are professionally and how they can communicate their value in competitive job markets.

2. Launch

The Launch stage focuses on practical innovation and workplace readiness skills needed in modern professional environments.

Participants will gain exposure to:

  • Innovation and problem-solving
  • Workplace communication
  • Professional collaboration
  • Career readiness training
  • Industry expectations
  • Practical employability skills

The programme is designed to prepare graduates for real-world professional challenges rather than only academic success.

3. Employ

The final Employ stage provides participants with supported internship placement opportunities.

Rather than ending with training alone, the programme helps graduates gain direct workplace exposure through internship experiences that can strengthen their resumes and improve long-term employability.

This practical component is one of the programme’s major strengths, offering participants an opportunity to apply their learning in professional settings.

Programme Benefits

Participants selected for Launch to Work: Africa will benefit from:

Fully Funded Participation

The programme is completely free for selected participants, removing financial barriers to career development opportunities.

Professional Identity Development

Graduates receive support in understanding and communicating their professional strengths and career goals.

Workplace Readiness Skills

Participants gain practical innovation and employability skills relevant to today’s job market.

Internship Placement Support

The programme includes a supported internship placement component to provide real-world professional experience.

Career Confidence and Exposure

Participants build confidence, workplace knowledge, and professional networks that can support long-term career growth.

Who Should Apply?

The programme is ideal for:

  • Recent graduates
  • Young African professionals
  • Individuals seeking their first professional opportunity
  • Graduates struggling to transition into employment
  • Young people looking to strengthen their workplace readiness

Applicants from all academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Why This Programme Matters

Youth unemployment and underemployment remain major challenges across Africa, even among university graduates.

Many graduates complete their studies with strong academic credentials but face difficulties entering the workforce due to limited professional exposure, lack of practical experience, or insufficient employability support.

Launch to Work: Africa seeks to address these gaps by helping graduates:

  • Build career confidence
  • Gain workplace skills
  • Improve employability
  • Access internship opportunities
  • Transition successfully into professional careers

The programme’s inclusive approach also challenges traditional assumptions that career development initiatives should focus only on STEM fields.

Application Deadline

Applications for the Launch to Work: Africa (L2W) 2026 programme are open until:

  • 3 July 2026

Interested applicants are encouraged to apply early.
