About The Iris Project

The Iris Project is an inspiring youth-led initiative dedicated to protecting and restoring nature while improving the lives of those committed to environmental stewardship. Our inclusive and paid Advisory Panel consists of climate activists from around the globe, including Nepal, Indonesia, Brazil, and Costa Rica. We are currently seeking ONE new Advisor under 30 years old to join our team and support our mission.

The Role

As an Advisor, you will collaborate with a diverse group of passionate individuals, gaining access to a global network of organizations and experts. You will play a pivotal role in identifying and supporting future environmental leaders through the annual Iris Prize. This position offers valuable leadership, mentoring, and skill development opportunities, including monitoring and evaluation, communications, and capacity-building.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: Under 30 years old.
  • Region: Applicants must be based in Southern Africa, West Africa, North Africa, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, or Central Asia.
  • Experience: Proven experience in nature stewardship (e.g., marine, terrestrial, rainforest), active land management (e.g., agriculture, human/wildlife conflict), and climate and environmental activism.
  • Skills: Proactive self-starter with robust links to youth networks and excellent written and verbal understanding of English. Additional languages such as Spanish, French, Portuguese, or Arabic are beneficial.
  • Commitment: Willingness to contribute to shaping The Iris Project and ensuring it remains youth-led.

Key Responsibilities

  • Outreach: Raise awareness about The Iris Project and recruit applicants for the annual Iris Prize through physical and digital outreach.
  • Application Review: Assess and review Iris Prize applications, interview shortlisted candidates, and help create the final shortlist for the Judging Panel.
  • Mentorship: Mentor Prize Winners in managing grants, developing projects, and evaluating their impact. Work closely with Prize winners to guide and identify their capacity-building needs.
  • Community Management: Collaborate with The Iris Project core team to manage community connections, organize events (e.g., conferences), share learnings, and emphasize the importance of youth-focused environmental philanthropy.
  • Safeguarding: Adhere to safeguarding standards by completing a safeguarding training session and following  The Iris Project’s data protection policy and safeguarding policy.

Time Commitment

  • Term: Minimum two-year term with a stipend.
  • Monthly Commitment: Approximately two days per month, including a 1-hour all-panel meeting every six weeks, contributing to the overall working strategy of The Iris Project, and raising awareness through youth networks and events.
  • Peak Period: Availability during the prize review process in May is critical. Selected candidates might be required to join calls outside of normal working hours due to varying time zones. Occasionally, a call could be as late as midnight or as early as 5 am (depending on your time zone).

Application Process

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and may close once the position is filled. Interested candidates can apply here.

Deadline: 0:00 BST, August 26, 2024.
