- Graduate interns: Must be enrolled in a graduate or law degree program .
- Undergraduate interns: Must be currently enrolled in a college or university or have graduated within one year of the current program year. Both graduate and undergraduate students are welcome to apply unless stated otherwise in specific internship postings.

The NYC Summer Internship Program (SIP) offers an outstanding opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience working within New York City government. Designed to provide both professional development and practical exposure, SIP connects students with impactful roles across various city agencies.
About the Program:
SIP enables interns to work in either the Summer Graduate Intern (for graduate students) or Summer College Intern (for undergraduate students) civil service titles. Internships can last for up to 13 weeks, providing meaningful contributions to public service initiatives while fostering an environment for skill-building and professional growth.
In 2024, SIP successfully placed over 260 graduate interns and 600 college interns across 35 NYC agencies, offering a wide array of experiences and training opportunities. Interns also benefit from professional development sessions, civil service career guidance, and become part of a growing alumni network.

- New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD)
- New York City Police Department (NYPD)

- The Board of Correction (BOC)
- The City of New York’s Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH)
- The Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget’s (OMB)
- The Office of Payroll Administration (OPA)
Candidate Eligibility:
- Graduate interns: Must be enrolled in a graduate or law degree program.
