The Cambridge Zero Future Leaders Programme (FLP) 2026 is now open for applications, offering a unique paid summer opportunity for current and recent undergraduate students passionate about climate and sustainability.

This prestigious programme provides hands-on experience through real-world climate projects, professional development training, and networking opportunities with experts across academia, policy, and industry.

Application Deadline and Programme Dates

Applications must be submitted by Wednesday, April 8, 2026 at 11:59 PM (UK time).

The programme will run from:

  • Start Date: Monday, July 13, 2026
  • End Date: Friday, September 11, 2026

Participants are entitled to 5 days of annual leave during this period.

Programme Structure and Work Experience

Participants, known as Project Assistants, will be assigned to specific climate and sustainability projects hosted by Cambridge Zero and its partners.

Projects span a wide range of areas, including:

  • Climate policy and adaptation
  • Sustainability research
  • Climate education
  • Innovation and mapping initiatives
  • Environmental health and future housing

Project Assistants will:

  • Work collaboratively in professional environments
  • Engage with researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders
  • Contribute to meaningful outputs such as policy briefings, research reports, and communication materials

For example, in the Climate Adaptation Policy project, participants will:

  • Develop a policy briefing based on national climate reports
  • Conduct research and stakeholder consultations
  • Potentially contribute to government evidence submissions

Participants will:

  • Salary: £13.45 per hour (aligned with the UK real Living Wage)

Participants must be able to work in Cambridge for the duration of the programme.
