The Ocean Futures Fellowship, offered by OceanX, is a forward-looking professional development program designed to equip emerging ocean professionals with the skills, experience, and global exposure needed to address some of the most urgent challenges facing the world’s oceans. This six-month, full-time fellowship provides a unique combination of technical training, mentorship, and hands-on project work, all delivered in a fully remote format.

At its core, the fellowship aims to build sustainable career pathways in ocean-related fields while fostering a new generation of leaders committed to ocean conservation, innovation, and public engagement. Participants benefit from OceanX’s extensive international network, gaining access to interdisciplinary collaborations that span science, media, and technology.

The program is closely aligned with global sustainability priorities, contributing to the objectives of the United Nations’s Ocean Decade and Sustainable Development Goal 14 (Life Below Water). Through this alignment, the fellowship emphasizes the importance of ocean literacy, storytelling, and scientific advancement in protecting marine ecosystems.

Fellows also receive a monthly stipend and may have the rare opportunity to travel aboard the OceanXplorer, OceanX’s state-of-the-art research and media vessel, depending on program needs and individual performance.

Applicants are expected to demonstrate experience or strong interest in at least one area, alongside a working knowledge of artificial intelligence (AI) and responsible use of emerging technologies.
