The Catalyst Academy is a regional youth social innovation learning program implemented across Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Cameroon, and South Africa. Led by entrepreneurs and academics from Catalyst Now, the program is designed to equip young people with the skills, networks, and opportunities needed to thrive as social innovators.
Through peer learning circles, technology-enabled platforms, and cross-sector collaboration, the program engages youth participants in co-creating solutions to pressing community challenges. Participants gain access to mentorship from experienced social innovators across Africa and beyond, alongside a structured learning journey that includes facilitated sessions, mentorship, and continuous peer exchange.
Who Can Apply
The program is open to:
- Young aspiring social entrepreneurs aged 18–35 years
- Individuals interested in social innovation
- Young women facing barriers to entrepreneurship
- Youth, especially persons living with disabilities or refugees/displaced persons seeking dignified employment opportunities
- Community leaders aiming to scale their social impact
Applicants must be nationals or residents of one of the following countries:
Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Cameroon, or South Africa.
Program Structure and Support
The Catalyst Academy is designed to provide both direct support to participants and wider community impact through knowledge sharing and innovation.
Direct Participant Support Includes:
- Weekly peer learning sessions to build knowledge, skills, and confidence
- Connection to experienced mentors in relevant fields
- Full access to a digital learning platform and curated resources
- Opportunities to participate in cross-border online learning exchanges
- Entry into the Catalyst Now network and alumni community
What Participants Will Gain
Participants in the program will:
- Build a real-world project addressing a community challenge
- Collaborate in small teams with other young changemakers
- Learn through hands-on, experiential learning rather than theory alone
- Develop and test a pilot solution rather than only conceptual ideas
