Peering Fellowship 2026: Fully Funded Global Opportunity for Internet Infrastructure Professionals

The 2026 Peering Fellowship is now open for applications, offering a unique opportunity for Internet infrastructure professionals to strengthen their expertise, expand global networks, and contribute to building a more resilient and accessible Internet ecosystem.

Launched by the Internet Society, this six-month fellowship program is designed to empower professionals working in peering and interconnection with the tools, knowledge, and global exposure needed to tackle real-world Internet challenges.

About the Peering Fellowship

In an increasingly interconnected world, the efficiency and resilience of the Internet depend heavily on strong peering and interconnection systems. The Peering Fellowship supports professionals working to improve Internet access by enhancing local interconnection infrastructure and advocating for supportive policy environments.

This program selects 20 fellows annually and provides a structured blend of virtual learning and in-person engagement at major regional peering events.

Program Structure and What to Expect

Participants in the Peering Fellowship will engage in a comprehensive learning experience that includes:

• Virtual Learning Sessions: Interactive online sessions, workshops, and collaborative discussions
• In-Person Peering Event Attendance: Fellows will attend a regional peering event aligned with their location
• Technical Training: Deep dives into Internet routing, Internet Exchange Points (IXPs), and interconnection strategies
• Policy and Advocacy Training: Understanding the regulatory landscape shaping Internet access
• Networking Opportunities: Direct engagement with global industry leaders and peers
• Local Impact Projects: Fellows will apply their learning to improve Internet infrastructure in their communities

Regional Peering Events

Fellows will attend one of the following events based on their region:

• Africa: AfPIF (18–21 August, Kigali, Rwanda)
• Latin America & Caribbean: LACNIC/LACNOG (19–22 October, Mendoza, Argentina)
• Asia-Pacific: Peering Asia (2–6 November, Osaka, Japan)
• Middle East: Event to be announced

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be based in Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, or the Middle East
• Have at least 3 years of experience in Internet infrastructure or related fields
• Possess knowledge or involvement in routing, IXPs, peering, or Internet policy
• Be able to commit 4–6 hours weekly throughout the program
• Have reliable Internet access and necessary devices
• Be available for sessions between 12:00 and 16:00 UTC
• Demonstrate basic English communication skills
• Not have participated in recent Internet Society fellowships (2024–present)

Selection Process

Applications will undergo a two-stage review process conducted by independent committees. The process is anonymized, ensuring fairness and impartiality. All applicants will receive a notification regarding their selection status after the review period.
