About the NABE Scholars Program

Launched in June 2020, the NABE Scholars Program builds on the NABE Foundation’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of economists. The initiative focuses on expanding access and promoting diversity within the business economics profession by supporting individuals from historically underrepresented groups.

Participants benefit from direct engagement with industry leaders, meaningful networking opportunities, and exposure to the wide range of career paths within business economics. The program is designed to equip scholars with the skills, connections, and experience needed for long-term professional success.

What NABE Scholars Receive

Scholars selected for the program gain access to a comprehensive package of professional development and networking opportunities throughout the year.

Mentorship

Each scholar is paired with an experienced NABE member who provides:

  • Career guidance and advice
  • Insights into the business economics profession
  • Opportunities to build meaningful professional relationships

Conferences and Events

Scholars are expected to attend at least two in-person NABE events during their program year. These may include:

  • NABE Foundation Economic Measurement Seminar
  • NABE Annual Meeting
  • NABE Tech Economics Conference & Industry Job Fair (TEC)
  • NABE Economic Policy Conference

Additional Benefits

  • One-year complimentary NABE membership
  • Free registration for one Certified Business Economist (CBE) course
  • Travel stipend of up to $400 to support event participation

These benefits provide scholars with exposure to leading economists and help them deepen their understanding of how economics is applied across industries and policy environments.

Why the NABE Scholars Program Matters

The NABE Scholars Program plays a vital role in shaping a more inclusive and representative business economics profession. By supporting talented individuals from diverse backgrounds, the program helps ensure that the field reflects a broader range of perspectives and experiences.

Through mentorship, training, and access to professional networks, scholars gain early exposure to the opportunities that define successful careers in business economics. At the same time, the program strengthens the broader economics community by introducing fresh ideas and voices.

The NABE Scholars Program is more than just a professional development opportunity—it is a pathway into a dynamic and influential field. For students and early-career professionals in economics, this program offers the tools, mentorship, and exposure needed to accelerate career growth and make a lasting impact.
