About the Fellowship

Fellows contribute to the Shorenstein Center by producing original content that enhances public understanding of how essential information is created, conveyed, and consumed.

Who Should Apply?

The fellowship is open to experienced professionals from various fields, including:

– Journalists with at least ten years of experience.
– Politicians and high-level political communications professionals.
– Scholars with a minimum of ten years in relevant academic fields.
– Policymakers who have held significant government roles.
– Documentary Filmmakers, who should apply through a separate program.

The Shorenstein Center values diversity and encourages applications from all demographic backgrounds and political perspectives.

What to Expect

Fellows engage with the Shorenstein Center by publishing original work, such as expert commentaries or policy papers, and by interacting with students through workshops or speaking events. Fellows work independently but are encouraged to collaborate with the broader Harvard community.

Application Process

The Joan Shorenstein Fellowship operates on a rolling application basis, starting in July 2024. Applications are reviewed within 4-6 weeks of submission. If selected, applicants will be contacted for further steps. Due to high demand, only those selected for further review will be notified.
